Word/PDF Conversion - "Missing PDF Files"

For some reason, I am unable to convert Microsoft Word files in PDF files. Previously, I have been able to select an option in Word to make a conversion and now that option is missing; I have also been able to make a conversion by "right-clicking" a Word file in a folder and selecting the "convert to pdf" option, however, it results in an error message that says "Missing PDFmaker Files, do you want to run the installer in repair mode?" When I select "yes", it runs the installer and requests that I restart my computer. After it restarts, I try to convert a Word document in PDF and I run into the same problem.
Note: This is only for Word, I can still convert Microsoft Publisher files and others into PDFs.
Is this a Microsoft problem? An Adobe problem? Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this common?

Did you happen to disable AcroTray in the startup menu? It is a required part of the conversion. Also, you made no mention of versions of WORD or Acrobat. If you are using WORD 2003, you need at least AA6.0.3 to use the PDF Maker feature. Try printing to the Adobe PDF printer, which is what PDF Maker ultimately does anyway.

I have the exact same problem as Justin Adelson, but your advice William A.Davis to print to the Adobe PDF printer solved the problem and I was able to make a PDF-document from my word 2003-doc. Hurrah and thank you! BUT I would also like to have back the short-cuts with the 3 small pdf-icons on my toolbar (pdf-maker 7.0)I have Acorbat Pro 7.0.8 and Word 2003, and Windows XP. And Word is the only program where I don't have the short cut for conversion to pdf.
You mention the Acrotray in the start up menu. How can I enable Acrotray if that is my solution?

For AcroTray, that is located in the Acrobat 7 folder (the Distillr sub folder). Just run it. Be sure it is added to the start up menu.

Sometimes the simplest way to get back functionality is to simply reinstall Acrobat. That does not answer the why, but sometimes solves the problem.

Thank you both. I have activated the acrobat-element under help in Word and now everything is ok. But if the problem comes back, I'll try to reinstall Acrobat :-)
