Discussion:
convert multiple docs to pdf with powerbuilder application
(too old to reply)

From a powerbuilder application we print 5 different documents; 3 of these documents are Word and 2 are from a powerbuilder datawindow. Our aim is to print all the 5 parts into one single pdf document without any user intervention.

Using advice from other forum posts, we are at the point where we have eliminated the file "save as" dialog, and have created a directory for writing the PDFs and created a port that points to that directory.

The problem is:
1. The print job opens file in the specified directory with a name ".pdf"
2. Once the file is created Acrobat reader opens the files ".pdf" and doesn't close it.
3. The next print job tries to write to the same file ".pdf" and a message pops saying "File in use"

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Ken.

I'm having a similar issue. I'm trying to print a word document via PowerBuilder and the save as window continues to come up. How did you get around this?

Ken, perhaps a bit late for your reply but...

As you are probably aware, the problem your having is because Acrobat opens to display the file, which in turn locks the file and stops PB from writing to file.

If you change the Adobe PDF printer settings, you can stop Acrobat from displaying the file once created. Go to "Printers and Faxes" open the properties for "Adobe PDF". Click "Printing Preferences..." on the "General" tab, and then uncheck the "View Adobe PDF results" check box on the "Adobe PDF Settings" tab.

You may also have to play around with the document spooling settings on the "Advanced" tab of the printer properties.

Thanks Martin. We actually figured this out a while ago, but in my absent-mindedness I forgot to post the solution....

Ken/Others,

I'm having a similar problem. Need to print different external documents (PDF, DOC, XLS, etc) along with other Datawindows from powerbuilder as a single print job. As the printing is happening from the application hosted in citrix, its getting shuffled.

Is there any solution so that I can print as one single PrintJob?

Atleast if i could combine PDF or DOC, it would solve half the problem.

Regards,
Kumar
