Can anyone tell me if there is a way to get rid of the Adobe icon on my
desktop?

I think the latest version of A R locks an icon onto your desktop.

How can I get rid of it?

Thanks!

How about "Delete"?

If that doesn't work, something odd has happened.

Ah...that would be too easy. ;-)

Somehow the icon is 'locked'.

Office computer on a network. (I don't know if it's an "enterprise" network
or not.)

The system is locked down.

You are a plain user and don't have the rights to delete shared icons from places like...

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

You will have to ask "admin" to remove it.

But they may have a reason to keep it there.

That can't be the reason. I have the same problem and I'm the only user, with
full Administrator privileges, on a home PC. I can delete the icon but it comes
back at the next logon. It's very annoying, not to mention quite useless, since
I would never run Reader from the desktop. Any other ideas?

If Adobe is recreating this shortcut, then there must be a setting
somewhere that prompts this behaviour.

Could it be a broken installation that needs a "Repair"?

Or something in your startup "Favorites"? (Check in msconfig.)

Maybe even some utility or other, or a problem that causes Windows to
mend itself on startup?

If is is an "icon", what are the properties of this icon ?

Delete is a write operation on name,

unmark all attribute on the shortcut file .lnk.

Right clic on the icon , attribute are at bottom of the

dialogue box. Try again delete.

Then try to rename the dot.lnk file in the Desktop

if you have Windows 9x, I'm uncertain about

Window 2k or later, delete access is in the name

of the file.
