I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. I have the touchup text tool. My PDF file
has a lot of columns in it. I need to change the text properties of some
of these columns. Is there a way I can use the touchup text tool and
select only column data (not rows or pages). I've tried every combination
of Shift, Alt, Control keys that I can imagine.

Any help would be appreciated even if the answer is that I can't do this.

Use the select tool, found inbetween the page number and hand tool on
the tool bar, then hold alt and you should be able to drag a box round
a column of text
