I also had the same troubles with scanning with a Canon imageRunner. AA6 will not work.
Adobe's tech solution: Save to tif file then convert. Yes this will work, but I am not scanning a couple of pages, more like a couple of thousand.
Adobe has not contacted me since I first called, so I called again...Do not know when problem will be fixed.
Took AA6 back to the store, had a few choice words with the clerk after she said can exchange for same title, but no refund. Got my refund though...LOL
Used it to buy AA5 on ebay everything works great now...Good Luck to you all!

Basically it is Windows XP that shutdown the power supply of the usb port in order to save power. When Xp tries to wake up the usb port with the scanner on it, the scanner does not wake up properlly... => The solution is to go in the "peripheral management" of winXP select "USB Controller" then for all the "USB root concentrator" select within power mamagement tab, unclick "allow the computer to shutdown the peropheral to save power"...
