Is there a decent free download program I can use to merge two PDF files?
I've tried several available on the net and when I've downloaded them they
come with lots of dodgy programs I dont want and mostly with no PDF program,
or cannot cope with a previously made PDF (they have to convert files first
from say Word) or are limited free trials. I dont mind registering for a
genuine decent one.

Thanks

PDFCreator/PDFArchitect. Works fine on my Win 7 Pro 64 bit machine. It's
Open Source freeware and you can get it from here:
http://www.pdfforge.org/download

When you install it, just tell it not to install the "dodgy" stuff that
comes with it. You only need to READ the installation prompts and
deselect these if that suits you. I think it asks to install a tool bar
(which I said no to) and a malware scanner (which I also said no to).

Thanks, I loaded PDF Architect from your link, but it keeps coming up with
'Unhandled exception error' and the choice to continue or quit. If I
continue it can't then see some pages. I'm using a 65 page PDF created
mostly in Adobe Standard 9 (which I no longer have access to!). Any ideas
why it gives this error?

Thanks

Use PDFCreator. Within the PDFCreator GUI, Stop the Printer.

Print PDF #1 to PDFCreator printer.
Print PDF #2 to PDFCreator printer.

In PDFCreator highlight both print jobs, Right-Click and choose "Combine".

Within the PDFCreator GUI, Start the Printer.

It will then create the merged PDF.

Hi, Mitch, I'd glad to share my experience with you. I have same question as you before, then I serch and found this useful tool to merge PDFs into One PDF file. It's very easy for using and it's FREE. You can download from kvisoft website http://www.kvisoft.com/pdf-merger/. Do not worry, it does not have dodgy programs. No need to first convert from Word or something else, and there's no limitation for merge. You can enjoy it as you like. Wish this information can help you to solve your problem.
